The Tongue has returned with his third album “Surrender To Victory” that clearly stands out, as his best release to date.

From the first track the album delivers. “Bittersweet” with Ngaiire serves as an excellent opening into a well-versed soulful hip-hop journey. The album kicks straight into full force from its second track “Champion Sound”, with special guest Suffa (From The Hilltop Hoods). With a total of nine guests over fifteen tracks – nothing feels over done. Each guest serves a purpose and compliments the track as if it were meant to be.

Powerful production layered under intricate lyrics that are a witty as they are flawlessly delivered. The Tongue has certainly outdone himself in terms of lyrical content. His impeccable flow in and out of each track never has you questioning his content or rhymes.

The real stand out on this record is the production. Helmed by Cam Bluff, he brings a real sense of involvement with his beats. The South African born producer allows the warmth and soul of each beat to stay intact while still delivering (an always welcome), gritty boom bap sound.

Stand out tracks on the album include “Moments Like This” featuring Illy and Tom Scott. The beat carries this song and each verse just slides on top of it so smoothly and authentic – it’s as close a sound to perfection as you’re going to get. “Australian Dreaming” serves as an excellent demonstration of just how impressive lyrically and thought provoking The Tongue can be.

The album never loses its steam, but in terms of building up a unison sound, the only track that takes you off coUrse is “Top Score” featuring Jimmy Nice and Ellesquire. Not to say the track doesn’t hold it’s own. It’s the necessity for a modern sound that makes this song feel out of place in this body of work.

“Surrender To Victory” is definitely a must have album. It’s quality work like this that hip-hop generally lacks today. Supporting this album not only helps out amazing Aussie talent – it gives hope back to the future of hip-hop.

The Tongue has also released a fifteen-part documentary, Inside Surrender To Victory. Each part details his thoughts on a certain track on the album. It’s The Tongues honesty, which makes these clips and asset to the albums understanding.
