Perth based beat maker/future world ruler Ta-Ku continues with his non-stop and consistently quality output, dropping another solid release in the form of “Retwerk Vol II” a collection of originals, remixes and reworks. Following on from the love and hype surrounding last years Vol I, it was a no brainer for Ta-Ku to make this happen. His diversity shines through on this release as he effortlessly merges RnB and Hip Hop influences with footwork, Trap and spaced out 808 vibes. The big difference is Ta-Ku does this with a unique sophistication and class in comparison to a lot of other releases lumped under the Trap umbrella.

There is legitimately not a tune that I dislike enough on this to write about so instead I am going to give you the rundown of a few tunes that have been on repeat way too much in the last week. Standouts for me were:

“One Thing About Footwork”. Amerie’s one thing has and will always be a guilty pleasure for me but I also felt the vocal had been played with one too many producers lending their hand at a rework. But again i spoke to soon, Ta-Ku flips what I thought was a played vocal into a footwork monster ready to turn out girlies in the clurrrbbb.

Mystic brew by Ronnie Foster is no doubt sacred territory to walk on as far as sample flips go, and when I heard the jersey drums at the start of “Electr(on)ic Relaxation” I was about to hit skip, but like the majority of tunes on Retwerk II, you need to let it run, let it marinate and goodness will prevail. Again another huge jam, chops are insane, drum switch ups flawless. Freak nasty sample was a nice hidden Easter egg towards the end of this 3 and a half minute workout. I have also been vibing on that jeremiah cut that he references in here so it was nice to have a nod to it in here.

“Cosmo’s Midnight – The Dofflin (Ta-ku Remix)” infectious percussion, epic builds and hype vocal chants make me wish I could get away with more stuff like this in the club.

“Hey Justin Pt II’s” blissed out intro had me locked into what I thought would be a nice slow burner until the vocal dropped at 1:10 when I proceeded to properly lose it. Again anyone that knows me, expect this to be played at inappropriate times by me more often than not.

Lastly “Twurkit” is a tasteful rework of the Busta cut doing the rounds and does exactly what it is supposed to, hands down ass up. Sure to have everyone from your girlfriend to pet dog throwing shapes and twerking like there’s no tomorrow. This will get run on some heavy sound systems and do some serious damage to dance floors across the globe. Raw ragga vocal stabs, hats galore, bigness!

I also thought the “Suit & Tie (Ta-ku Remix)” was better than the og and “I Love Beyonce” is a jam that will most definitely have a place in my crates for some time.

Hands down another very polished, and forward thinking release and well worth the ten bones on his bandamp. Add this to your ever expanding Ta-Ku folder in your ITunes library and be sure to tell your friends now before he takes over the world.
