I immediately took to Mystro’s new offering. Banging beats, Mystro’s trademark multi-syllable rhyming patterns and a title that cracked me up – Digmund Freud was a nickname given to Mystro by DJ Debris on tour in ‘06. At 8 tracks in length, calling ‘Digmund Freud’ an EP is kind of an insult. I guess it’s not quite the length of an LP by today’s standards but you feel (musically) full after listening, if that makes any sense.

The lead track ‘Around My Way’ is an instant classic. It took me a while before I heard the rest of the tracks as I kept going back to this joint over and over again. As always Mystro destroys it lyrically, and Swerve smashes the production. Have a look for the ‘Around My Way’ video on YouTube. It shows Mystro busking his way around London. I love music videos that show an artist’s personality as well as their musicality, this is one of those clips.

The guests on ‘Digmund Freud’ certainly shine, especially Stig of the Dump. Stig’s one my favorite UK emcee’s and alongside Ramson Badbonez and Skandal he tears down the EP’s obligatory posse track ‘It’s.’ Mystro truly embraces the tongue in cheek EP title ‘Digmund Freud’ and offers some sage advice, not only on the title track, but also on ‘Don’t Worry’, ‘Moan, Moan, Moan’ and ‘Fly Away’. Mystro manages to deliver his wisdom in a clever way without coming off as preachy. You get advice rather than instruction. This disc hasn’t left my car stereo since I got a hold of it. I would encourage all listeners to follow the philosophies of ‘Digmund Freud’.

‘With every tight rhyme, penning my lines, drinking very fine wine till it’s beddy-bye time’
