“90s Music” pays homage to the decade of pure pop, with Kimbra’s high pitched vocals reiterating how sickly sweet the 1990s could be. M-Phazes’ interpretation of the original begins with an RnB vibe that slowly melts into thumping Miami bass, sprinkled with a handful of samples to send the audience on a vivid trip down memory lane.
M-Phazes’ rework is both nostalgic and futuristic. Building on the synth loaded, hyper-coloured original, a progression of smooth drum claps and finger snaps have been added, forming a sound you’d hear in a Harijuku DDR arcade.
The remix is one born out of divine chaos, leaving the listener wanting their 90’s wardrobe back and a one-way ticket to Tokyo.
