“Soul has no musical geographical or racial boundaries…You don’t always know who you’re making that soul connection with…” Roy Ayers.

It begins with the beat, the nod, shortly after the smile, you look around the room and everybody is doing it too. That’s the power of Soul music!

Return Of The Real and Funkdafied’s Soul Power have teamed up to present a very special night of live Soul music that will leave you turning to the stranger beside you, nodding in approval, feeling that definitive Soul connection Roy Ayers was talking about. New Zealand’s Isaac Aesili is back in Australia alongside Rachael Fraser and Sydney’s own Soul connoisseurs The Ray Mann Three will be creating the ultimate Soul experience at Tone on the 12th of November

ISAAC AESILI WITH RACHAEL FRASER (NZ)
“One of the most exciting soul talents to emerge from the South Pacific!” (Benji B, Deviation; BBC1 Xtra)

A consummate multi instrumentalist and beatmaker, Isaac Aesili’s debut solo album ‘Eye See’ is a rich tapestry of sound with R&B at its heart with lashings of Soul, Reggae and Funk woven within. Experimental and futuristic in some parts, warm and soulful in others, the album, an extension of its author, is a tribute to diversity.

Adopted as a baby and raised in Christchurch, with a cultural and ethnic heritage comprising of Guyanese, Pakeha, and Maori, Isaac has always known what it is like to look and feel different. These experiences would later form the inspiration behind ‘Eye See’ as he was drawn to make an album that celebrated people’s differences and explored the universality of music in an increasingly diverse world. Fittingly, the album features collaborations with a variety of gifted Kiwis including Aaradhna, Rosita Vai, Rachel Fraser, Mara TK and Deva Mahal.

Over the last decade Isaac has been an integral member of Solaa, Opensouls, Recloose Live and Eru Dangerspiel. ‘Eye See’ is an inspired album of intelligent soulful music and an investigation of our world from the perspective of the youth looking towards the future.

THE RAY MANN THREE (SYD)
“The Ray Mann Three fuse D’Angelo’s sex appeal with the grit of Tom Waits” – Sydney Morning Herald

From the band’s humble beginnings in 2005, playing regularly around the secret nightspots of Sydney, The Ray Mann Three developed its sound, look and live show in particular at their monthly late-night residency at Tonic Lounge in the Kings Cross district. In 2008 the band started playing its first shows outside of Sydney, and soon gained a “must-see” buzz, regularly selling out shows around the country.

The live shows of The Ray Mann Three and of Ray Mann (solo) have earned them spots supporting international acts such as Al Green, Tori Amos, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Jamie Lidell and Roy Ayers, plus local acts ranging from Ash Grunwald and The Bamboos to Kate Miller-Heidke and Holly Throsby.

The Ray Mann Three’s debut album “The Ray Mann Three” was recorded in three days and was produced by Tony Buchen. The album blends Soul, Jazz and Hip Hop with timeless songwriting that calls to mind Al Green, D’Angelo, The Beatles and The Roots perfectly capturing the band’s warm, intimate sound.
