The Espy is proud to announce the return of SOUL FOOD, showcasing the best in soul, beats and grooves – Saturday December 10. Tearing the place apart will be the ever soulful Daniel Merriweather, Detroit’s DJ House Shoes, electronic duo Sietta and Melbourne’s own Dj Manchild.

A few of you may know Daniel Merriweather as the emotive voice on producer Mark Ronson’s chart-busting cover of The Smiths ‘Stop Me’. He is however, anything but a set of rent-a-pipes. Born and bred in Melbourne, Daniel moved to New York a few years back to pursue his dream in music. His demos came to the attention of Mark Ronson who instantly fell in love with his voice. What followed was not only the birth of a unique working partnership but also a great friendship. In 2007 Daniel Merriweather put his amazing, distinctive, soulful voice to Mark Ronson’s ‘Stop Me’ (cover of The Smith’s track).

The pair also worked on Daniel’s solo album ‘Love & War’. The result was a truly amazing record which encompasses all of Daniel’s major influencers – Stevie Wonder, Prince, Jeff Buckley and Herbie Hancock. The lead single from Daniel’s album, ‘Change’, entered the UK charts at number 8 when released and his follow up single, ‘Red’, peaked at number 8.

Detroit’s Hip Hop Ambassador DJ House Shoes is back in Australia bringing that Motor City music to The Espy. Darwin exports Sietta make their Espy debut for the return of Soul Food along with Melbourne’s own Dj Manchild.
