\nLocal Sydney Don\u2019s Loose Change new long player \u201cListening Party\u201d has dropped just in time for summer and the vibes are most certainly right. Repping the Big Village massive the crew is made up collectively of established and well respected Mc\u2019s Rappaport and Ellesquire, with the extremely talented P. Major on production duties. Listening Party serves up 17 cuts that show both the depth of P. Major\u2019s production talents and the ability of Ellesquire and Rappaport to trade verses.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Listening Party” takes a change of pace and direction from their debut “Eponymous” that is both an interesting and refreshing listen. The tone of the album sees the gents comfortably wearing their coming of age tales on their sleeves while confidently injecting their signature tongue in cheek humour and story telling into a polished and cohesive album.<\/p>\n

Listening to this album from start to finish it all made sense, both vibe wise and sonically which clearly points to the amount of input and time the three must have put into the writing and recording process. They have enlisted a variety of guests ranging from the soulful vocal lacings of Meklit and Brisbane\u2019s Laneous on \u201cDo To Me\u201d, through to long time homie Ozi Batla\u2019s (The Herd\/Astronomy Class) contribution to hazy track \u201cTalk Nah\u201d. Fellow Big Village label mates Jeswon (Thundamentals) steps in on \u201cGrow Up\u201d and \u201cTenth Dan\u201d for \u201cDynamite Shit\u201d. All the guests make perfect sense on their respective tracks and add a nice point of difference to “Listening Party”.<\/p>\n

Standout cuts for me were \u201cMess\u201d a breakdown of failed relationship biz that seems to go hand in hand with household cleanliness. The beat knocks, both verses are on point and there is a funny as hell video clip that just dropped which is also worth checking. This will be big live with the call and response chorus, drunk crowds stand up! <\/p>\n

\u201cGrown Up\u201d is a relatable coming of age cut, which made me reflect on why my own pay checks are still chump change. The gents get a little deeper and break down some life lessons. All verses are solid with Jeswon (Thundamentals) killing the third and final. <\/p>\n

The hypnotic beat on \u201cYes Or No\u201d had me steady nodding as Ellesquire and Rappaport again tribute one to the ladies, while Meklit\u2019s niceness on the vocals shine through and turn the this into one of my most played on the album.<\/p>\n

Pencil in their album launch to your diaries on the 18th of January at Civic Underground in Sydney, I can most certainly vouch that these fellas never disappoint live. Rappaport and Ellesquire share a really natural chemistry on stage that seems almost second nature but is obviously something this crew has built over years of touring and gigging. It is really refreshing to see acts that can hold down a solid live show and then translate an amazing album. <\/p>\n

Large up to Loose Change and the whole Big Village roster for building things from the ground up. Cop this and support some talented cats that are destined for even big things. <\/p>\n
