\nEast Coast producer Statik Selektah is back with his fifth studio album “Extended Play”. With 18 Tracks, 38 guest appearances (not including individual group members) and a total running time of just over an hour \u2013 “Extended Play” really lives up to its title.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The album is pretty traditional standard \u2018Boom-Bap\u2019 hip-hop \u2013 that\u2019s not to say that it\u2019s a bad album \u2013 it just not a ground breaking album. The sound of the album is engulfed in East Coast\/NY based sound. In terms of production quality, you can clearly tell from this release (and previous Statik albums), that as a producer he likes to stick to a certain structure of sampling. Although not off the bat familiar samples \u2013 he\u2019s clearly crafted his sounds to accommodate his guests. While there is not one bad song \u2013 at times it feels like there\u2019s not a lot of experimentation gone into the project. This is definitely not a bad thing. If you\u2019re good at something \u2013 stick to it \u2013 and that\u2019s exactly what Statik has done. <\/p>\n

The two stand out tracks for me would have to be the third single of the album \u201cGame Break\u201d featuring Lecrae, Termanology & Posdnuos. Great sample, excellent features, solid verses, you couldn\u2019t ask for more. The second stand out would have to be the first single \u201cBird\u2019s Eye View\u201d featuring the legends Black Thought & Raekwon trading some great verses with new comer Joey Bada$$. Some other stand out tracks on the album includes \u201cThe Spark\u201d, \u201cMy Hoe\u201d, \u201cFuneral Season\u201d and \u201cLove & War\u201d. <\/p>\n

“Extended Play” has more than enough guest features to make sure every one\u2019s tastes are accounted for. While it is a good album and an easy listen \u2026 all of the features and the lack of musical direction cause “Extended Play” to sound more like a mix-tape and less like a well crafted studio release. Nonetheless there is some pretty quality production and some great verses \u2013 definitely worth checking out. <\/p>\n
