The Get On Down Jukebox Series is a concept that has been a dream of label co-founder Matt Welch’s for many years. “Since I was a kid, I have always been intrigued by Jukeboxes,” he says. “But when I was finally able to get my hands on one a couple years ago and started to fill it up, I realized that most of my favorite hip-hop records aren’t available on 45. So we decided to change that.”
Now available exclusively on Get On Down four classic hip-hop 12-Inches from the ‘90s, shrunk down to 7-inch size (“big hole” format) and complete with the original 12-inch artwork housed in a limited edition Get On Down 45 binder. None of the releases in the series have ever been officially issued in 7-inch configuration before.
Fans who purchase the inaugural Get On Down Jukebox Binder Bundle will get all four 7-inches above on limited-edition colored vinyl in addition to receiving an embossed Get On Down Jukebox 45s binder that will house a total of ten seven inches – this is the number that will eventually be released in the Jukebox Series, by the end of 2015.
Get On Down’s Matt Welch explains more about the genesis for the Jukebox Series: “The theme is pretty basic: classic hip-hop 12-inches that were never released on 45. There is also a shared aesthetic in that we felt that the choices we made were DJ favorites. Not necessarily radio hits, but songs that true hip-hop DJs around the world connect with. And regarding the sonics on these releases, all the audio was sourced from the master tapes of the original singles.”
After this initial offering – color 7-inches for those who buy the Get On Down Jukebox Binder Bundle; black for 7-inches bought individually – Get On Down will offer one new 7-inch for the next six months, on the second Friday of each month. Those who have purchased the Get On Down Jukebox Binder Bundle will be able to order colored vinyl early, via a private URL sent via email before the rest of the world will be able to purchase.
