Eric Lau is a producer you may have heard, but not heard of. Through his work with artists like Dego, Guilty Simpson, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Lupe Fiasco and Oddisee he has earned a reputation as one of the leading producers in Hip-Hop and Soul music, with a strong following of dedicated fans.
His slick productions have turned the ears of both tastemakers and peers like Benji B (Radio 1) who called Lau’s work ‘Heavy’, Phonte (of Little Brother) added that Lau is ‘One of the illest beatmakers’, James Poyser (of The Roots) said ‘I’m a fan!’, and 9th Wonder called his new album ‘Dopeness!’.
Jay Dee, Pete Rock, D’Angelo, Questlove, James Poyser, Donald Byrd and Shuggie Otis are frequently cited by Lau as his main influences. But throughout his short career he has developed a unique sound of his own which has been refined and perfected most prominently on his new album.
